Story Safety
Every story Bedtime writes is written to be heard at bedtime, by a child who is meant to fall asleep. That shapes every decision below.
The house rules
Every story is written against a fixed set of rules:
- No peril without comfort. Tension can exist, but resolution always follows, within the same story.
- No villains who win. Nothing frightening is left standing at the end.
- Every story ends settled and safe. The last minutes are always calm — the arc lands softly rather than stopping.
- Nothing that wakes a child up. No jump scares, no cliffhangers, no unresolved threats.
These rules are part of how every story is written, not an optional setting.
Age-appropriate by design
You tell us a child’s age when you create their profile. That shapes vocabulary, sentence length, story length, and the kinds of situations that appear. A story written for a three-year-old is not the same story written for an eight-year-old.
What you can steer
Nightly check-in.You can tell us what’s on a child’s mind — a worry, something brave, something coming tomorrow. The story won’t repeat it word for word; it works the theme in gently.
If something about a story doesn’t sit right, email hi@bedtime.help. We read every report.
How stories are made
Stories are written by an AI language model using the profile and check-in details you provide, then narrated by a text-to-speech voice. Every story is checked against the house rules before it is read aloud.
Automated systems are not perfect. If a story ever contains something that doesn’t belong, tell us — email hi@bedtime.help. We read every report.
Your child’s details
We collect only what’s needed to personalise a story. You choose what to enter, and a nickname works as well as a real name. Children never log in or interact with Bedtime directly — the account is yours. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
